The Draft Strategy that will win Fantasy Football leagues this year!
I have done countless mock drafts and have even done some real fantasy drafts as well for some of my home leagues. When it comes to drafting a fantasy football team, I have figured out exactly what the best draft strategy is going into 2025.
The strategy I'm excited to implement in 2025 is the HERO WR Draft strategy.
Why?
Well, let’s get into it. In the 1st round of fantasy drafts, on average, there are seven wide receivers and five running backs that will go. In essence, this means that once we reach the second round of fantasy drafts, there will be more running back value than wide receiver value.
In a lot of my drafts so far, I find myself going wide receiver to start, preferably guys like CeeDee Lamb, Justin Jefferson, Malik Nabers, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Nico Collins, assuming we don’t have the 1st overall pick.
In the 2nd round, we can get these running backs: Josh Jacobs, Chase Brown, Derrick Henry, De’Von Achane, and Jonathan Taylor. I just listed off five players that have RB1 upside, and four of them have overall RB1 upside. Not only are we securing a high-end WR1 in the 1st round, but we are securing a high-end RB1 in the 2nd round.
A perfect example of how this HERO WR draft strategy would look would be in this tweet that I made here:
To go over exactly how this looks, we take CeeDee Lamb in the 1st round, and then from rounds 2-4, we solidify our RB room. In round 2, I prefer either Josh Jacobs or Chase Brown. In round 3, I like Kyren Williams, Jonathan Taylor, James Cook, and Breece Hall. In the 4th round, I like Kenneth Walker, Omarion Hampton, and Alvin Kamara.
Now that we have solidified our RB room, it is time to hammer in on the receivers, so in round 5, I have no problem reaching for one of my guys here, and it is going to be Tetairoa McMillan, as he is due for WR1-type volume in Carolina. In round 6, we will look to take Calvin Ridley. In Tennessee, Cam Ward will have no one else to throw to but Calvin Ridley. In round 7, I'm particularly interested in targeting Rome Odunze, as he's one of my top sophomore breakout candidates. Additionally, Ben Johnson has indicated that Rome Odunze will play the X-Receiver role.
In this draft, we targeted a HERO WR in CeeDee Lamb, then focused on the RB value in rounds 2-4, and then from rounds 5-7, we started hammering in on the receiver value that is coming our way.
I will be coming out with more draft strategies, but for now HERO WR might be my favorite, but this doesn’t mean I don’t like going with a RB in the 1st round either. Stay tuned for my HERO RB draft strategy which will come in the next one.
Appreciate you for making it this far, see you in the next one.
